Inaugurated in 1800, the Op\u00e9ra-Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de N\u00eemes was located opposite the Maison Carr\u00e9e until 1952, when an opera singer burnt it to the ground out of revenge. After the fire, the theater moved to the foyer communal, place de la Calade. In 1988, under the initiative of Jean Bousquet, then mayor of N\u00eemes, the building was renovated by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte: the Op\u00e9ra-Th\u00e9\u00e2tre became the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de N\u00eemes. To this main auditorium was added, from 1993, the smaller Od\u00e9on auditorium. In 1990, the association Danse Musique Th\u00e9\u00e2tre (DMT) was created to manage the two venues. The theater was then commissioned and supported by the French Ministry of Culture. In 1995, the DMT association changed its name to “Th\u00e9\u00e2tres de N\u00eemes”, under the direction of Jean Lebeau. Major renovation work on the auditorium, the public and artist reception areas was undertaken in the 2000s. In 2012, the Ministry of Culture awarded the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de N\u00eemes the “Sc\u00e8ne conventionn\u00e9e” label for contemporary dance. Since 2018, the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de N\u00eemes has been a “Sc\u00e8ne conventionn\u00e9e d’int\u00e9r\u00eat national art et cr\u00e9ation – danse contemporaine”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
